The Wombats-A Guide to Love, Loss, and Desperation

A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation
In the past few years there have been many rock bands out of Britain. Most are influenced by what Blur did in the 90’s and therefore this new wave of Brit Rock sounds a lot alike. There are the breakouts, such as the Arctic Monkeys and the Fratellis, that found a way to distinguish their sound from the pack, but the majority of these bands are hard to tell apart. The Wombats is one of those bands that struggles to stand out from the pack. Its not to say that their music is bad, because its decent. The Wombats just lack a certain star quality that is hard to obtain among the droves of post-Blur bands. A Guide to Love, Loss, and Desperation is good listen; its lively and fun. But don’t expect a whole lot of new out of this album. Favorite Song: Let’s Dance to Joy Division. A quirky little song about beating depression by dancing to Joy Division. I guess I have a thing for songs that make other band’s song titles into puns. Least Favorite Song: School Uniform. This song is pretty so-so, lacking the usually harmonies and interesting lyrics that make Brit Rock what it is.
