Beck-Modern Guilt

Published by saralime at 9:15 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Modern Guilt

Beck is the king of self re-invention. His albums range from shiny and sexy (Midnite Vultures) to sarcastic (Odelay) to sad and morose (Sea Change). Modern Guilt fits somewhere nicely between the rest of his catalog. His work with Danger Mouse on this album has made the work quirky and poppy, but it remains a little more sophisticated than some of his previous upbeat albums. Danger Mouse’s production style is evident through innovative drum beats, but Beck’s creativity in songwriting is the real winner. Favorite song: Gamma Ray. This song has a very 60s mod feel to it, but with an electronic twist. Least favorite song: Soul of a Man. This is really the only straight rock song and it lacks cohesion with the rest of the album.
